Merry Christmas! The holiday season is so special but Christmas Day is over in the blink of an eye. What’s next? A whole new year is ahead for all of us! A blank slate to color as you wish. Yes, you DO have a choice what it looks like! We are each responsible for ourselves and our health and life. When I call myself a HOLISTIC health coach, holistic means the WHOLE person. Every part of our life affects every other part.
Have you been contemplating the new year and new intentions? Making any changes? Removing things or adding things? I’ve been talking about this over the last few weeks. Now it’s time to dig into what it means.
Last week I talked about the most important intention – your relationship with God. That is between you and him. I’m not going to meddle but please know I am here to support you. Secondly, have you thought about what you want your life to look like going forward? The past doesn’t have to define you unless you allow it to. Scripture tells us “you are a slave to whatever controls you” (2 Peter 2:19) Perhaps you would like to break free from a habit or relationship. I know what it feels like to be enslaved but also feel like you don’t have a choice. You do. Take back your personal power and freedom of choice. It is incredibly important to create a plan. Without a plan, nothing will change. No excuses.
In my one-on-one coaching, I ask you to develop your personal Wellness Vision statement and we work through what it looks like in your unique life and circumstances, then I help you implement it and support you in the process. Your Wellness Vision is completely your ideas and your dreams of what you want your life to look like. It could include some radical changes, or not. Maybe your life is good and you want to make some tweaks to make it better. Creating your Wellness Vision statement then becomes your road map. You are the expert of you. You can do and be whatever you choose to do and be. It could be as simple as doing more of the things you love. Again, I am here to support you in your intentions, not tell you what to do. Nobody likes to be told what to do. In fact, I tend to rebel against that! Sneak peek – you are the first to hear this. I am going to host a workshop in January that will include crafting your personal Wellness Vision. Details to come!
One fact I would like to make clear. We are in control of ourselves, our thoughts and behaviors. We cannot control anything outside ourself. This includes other people and their behaviors or the way they think. You can never control another person. Acknowledging that, accepting it and behaving accordingly will bring you freedom and peace.
Mel Robbins has a new book out called Let Them theory. I haven’t previously followed Mel Robbins and honestly don’t know everything she stands for so this is not an endorsement. However, I listened to her talk about the Let Them theory and it resonates with what I am saying here.
If someone close to you (or anyone) doesn’t behave or believe in a manner you think they should. Let Them! If circumstances are not to your liking. Let Them.
When we give up trying to control, this creates freedom in our own life and reduces stress. We each make choices and God created us with freedom of choice. This also means you have the choice to walk away from a circumstance or relationship that isn’t working for you. Yes, it is that simple. Excuses be gone!
The holidays are a wonderful time to enjoy and celebrate. As you are in this mode and hopefully enjoying some down time, I encourage you to consider your life and what you want it to look like at this time next year or even longer. You deserve to thrive!
Next week we will talk more about the nuts and bolts of creating your Wellness Vision. My live (and recorded) workshop in January will tie it all together plus give you a worksheet as well as provide you an opportunity to ask questions. In the meantime, Merry Christmas!
In love and health,
Terri
