Happy New Year! This is a natural time to assess and reset your habits and goals. I’m all about that and am here to enthusiastically support you! I’m in the process of mapping out my own intentions for the new year plus a plan to accomplish them.
I’ve created a Quick Win Checklist for Health and Life Goals that you can download here for free!
The idea is to focus on small, manageable steps that set the foundation for your health and life goals. Small steps done consistently over time lead to big results.
The First Step!
Rather than willy nilly setting intentions, I like to have a plan so they will stick. The first step is to deeply search your heart and come up with your Wellness Vision. That is, what do you want your life to look like a year from now? Five years from now? From this vision, you create a Wellness Vision Statement that you read at least once per day. It is a paragraph or a couple sentences that describe the WHY behind your goals and intentions. Without knowing our deeper “why” it is easy to become discouraged, distracted, and even give up when we don’t see immediate results. Knowing your why and revisiting your vision daily, really helps to cement it into your heart and mind. When things get hard and temptations come (they will!), knowing your deeper reason and motivation will help you get through the rough patch.
The Roadmap
Your Wellness Vision becomes your roadmap. You use it to determine what you need to do to get to the place you want to be, then break it down into small, actionable steps. Overwhelm will kill motivation. Taking small steps consistently leads to big results. There is science behind habit formation. One really good book I highly recommend is James Clear’s Atomic Habits.
SMART Goals
Our goals also need to be SMART. Specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time bound. We could even make them SMART-ER by adding exciting and risky!
Your Wellness Vision is a personalized statement describing how you want to feel, live, and thrive in 2025. This provides clarity and focus and is a motivational guide when challenges arise.
Example of a wellness vision: “In 2025, I will feel energized, balanced, and confident as I prioritize self-care and connection with loved ones.”
In this example, there are many areas to explore. You may find utilizing a coach is helpful. Establishing a Wellness Vision with my clients is foundational to my coaching.
How to Start Today
Download my free Quick Win Checklist for Health & Life Goals.
Begin your personal self-assessment of what you want your life to look like moving forward. Perhaps begin with considering what is currently working well for you? What is not working? What would you like to change? What would you like more of? These are deeply personal questions only you can answer.
Pick one to three small actions you are ready, willing and able to take now. Don’t try to take on too much or too many.
Write down your plan for the year. Share your goals with a trusted friend or coach for support. This will enhance your experience and increase your success.
