Inspired Wellness, Faith-based health coaching

Our Mission

Inspired Wellness was founded by Terri Alvarado after an amazing recovery from her debilitating autoimmune illness.

I am following God’s call on my life to use my experience and education as well as my love for people to help you also recover from any type of medical issue. Life may not look the same but with the proper self-care and holistic healing protocols, life can be vibrant and fulfilling.

My inspiration for creating Inspired Wellness comes from the book of Nehemiah in the Bible. The walls of Jerusalem had been broken down for 120 years despite its residents having available labor to fix it. God’s word to me as it applies to my mission with Inspired Wellness:

What the people needed was someone to rally them, plan their course of action, and take them through the rebuilding process. They need a leader.

I am honored to walk alongside you and help you through the process at your pace.

What Does Coaching Look and Feel Like?

Mountain guides do not climb mountains for people. Nothing is accomplished, really, if you hire me as your mountain guide and pay me merely to plant your flag on the summit while you sip a beverage and observe me through a telescope down at the lodge.

As your guide, I will help you plan the climb. We assess your readiness for the climb, examine what you have and what you need in equipment and resources. Together we determine a route to take. We plan how long the journey will take and allow for elements we can’t control, be it the weather or a family crisis. We examine what your personal goals are. Are you a peak-bagger, or more into the sheer experience of the high country? We get clear on what a successful and fulfilling climb will be for you.

Mountain guides do not make people climb mountains. The motivation for the climb has to be within the climber. During times of discouragement, I may lend support, or even challenge you to reach a little deeper for strength I know you have. I also know that your chances of success are far greater if your motivation is internal. You WANT to climb this mountain! You are excited about it, and you anticipate that the journey will in itself be a large part of the pleasure of the experience. It works best when it is not fear-based motivation. You are not climbing the mountain because you are afraid what will happen if you don’t!

Most importantly, your chances of success are far greater just because you aren’t doing it alone. Knowing that I am there with you on the journey shifts your entire mental approach. You push through the temptation to turn back prematurely (as you may have done so often in the past) as you look over at me climbing beside you. You know I will hold you accountable to yourself to do what you said you have come to do. You also know that you retain your freedom, and if you choose to turn back you will not be criticized for it. When we do summit, it is your flag that is planted, not mine, for this was your journey. It was you and the mountain. Your coach was like a good solid rope – a support.

National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach

What is NBC-HWC and what does it mean for you?

First, it stands for national board-certified health and wellness coach. The national board doing the certification is the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). The healthcare field is beginning to evolve and recognize the value of “lifestyle medicine.” The NBME desires to bring board-certified health & wellness coaches alongside medical practitioners to serve their chronically ill patients who need some guidance in implementing healthy lifestyle behaviors. Since the health coach field is unregulated, the NBME established standards through the national board exam to implement rigorous training, education and assessment standards, allowing for the profession to advance in all aspects of health care and wellness. There are many eligibility requirements to sit for the exam. Coach Terri diligently worked on this process for 13 months because she wants to be the very best she can be personally and professionally to serve our clients. You deserve the best!

How else does this serve our clients? Health insurance codes are coming out! Currently we have codes for Medicare/Medicaid. At a minimum, you may be able to use your health savings account or flexible spending account for our services! Eventually, other insurance companies will come on board. All our systems and processes are HIPAA compliant.

You also have the added benefit of our professional network of board-certified coaches and practitioners that is continually expanding.  Coach Terri continues her education as a life-long learner and lover of people!
