The Gift We Can’t Get Back

November snuck up on us! I’ve been walking in my neighborhood this week, and I’m seeing Christmas lights! What! The leaves are still falling, and Halloween was only a few days ago. There are still about three weeks until Thanksgiving. This observation caused me to think about time: years, months, weeks, hours, minutes…. Whatever increment you choose, it goes by quickly.

When my three sons were young, they were a handful. I used to say, “The days are long, but the years are short.” I’m not sure I believed it then, but becoming a Mima has shown me it’s true. Now, I tell my daughter-in-law this since she’s a busy SAHM to four precious, darling grandchildren.

Time in Regard to Health

Many of us delay caring for our bodies, minds, and spirits, thinking “I’ll start Monday” or “when life slows down. The truth is: time will pass whether we take action or not. So why not begin now?

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12 NIV

Why We Wait (And Why We Shouldn’t)

  • Common reasons people delay taking care of their health:
    • Busyness
    • Guilt or feeling selfish
    • Belief that it’s too late or too hard
  • Reframe: Self-care is stewardship, not selfishness.
  • The longer we wait, the more healing or progress we may need later.

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” – Proverbs 27:1 NIV

The Power of Small Steps Right Now

You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight—start with one thing today. Small daily choices compound to big transformation.

  • Drink more water
  • Take a walk
  • Pray or journal for 5 minutes
  • Prep a healthy meal

Your Health is Kingdom Work

When we care for our bodies and minds, we are better equipped to love, serve, and fulfill our purpose. In fact, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

“Don’t you realize your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

Good health allows you to minister to others, be present for your loved ones, and run your race with endurance.

Trust God With Your Time

God multiplies our efforts when we offer Him our obedience. Have you experienced this? Let me give you an example from my own life.

I spend a lot of time working on Inspired Wellness, which invariably includes tech, on increasing the reach. I’m figuring out digital marketing, and it’s not intuitive for my brain. This weekend, I’ve been learning how to update my WordPress website and create a landing page to offer some free content to my subscribers. Sounds easy enough, right? I’ve spent SO much time trying to figure it out on my own until I had a breakthrough momemt. I realized I hadn’t talked to God about this struggle, so I asked for His help. I prayed and told Him what I needed and asked for help. I took a break to recharge and while doing so, I watched a YouTube video about the task I was struggling with. There it was! My how-to answer! This was a gift from God! Saving me a lot of time!

I’m also learning to surrender my perfectionism tendency. Progress over perfection is my new mantra. Perfectionism keeps me stuck. An imperfect but published landing page moves the mission forward as opposed to a strive-for-perfect, beautiful landing page that remains unpublished because I’m stuck figuring out an irrelevant detail.

I also know that investing time in my well-being is never wasted. After all, my body is His temple and I have a responsibility to care for it. I can easily get out of balance, and I continually remind myself, that’s what brought on my autoimmune condition. Self-care is a priority!

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV

Call to Action: Start Today!

The “perfect” time doesn’t exist. Today is the best day to take one small step toward better health. Your future self and your loved ones will thank you!

Let me know what your small step will be this week! Mine is to finish that landing page!

In love and health,

Terri
