Spring Reset and Refresh: Four Simple Steps to More Energy

Happy Spring! Today is April 1st but not April Fools! I’m giving you the real scoop!

Spring is a natural renewal and refresh time. I’ve been exceptionally quiet here and online because I’m in the thick of exactly that. I’m ruthlessly decluttering and refreshing my home. After I got past the mental hump, momentum built quickly. Someone said, “Decluttering is a gateway drug to a better midlife!” I am loving clean, white space and margin. I have spent many years accumulating and now have a new outlook about “stuff.” I don’t need it or want it!

Renewal and refresh can take many different forms. It could be physical health, diet, movement or something else. It all begins in our headspace which is why I talk about mindset so much.

Deciding to do something is the first and biggest hurdle. Getting started is the hardest part. Like my decluttering, when I got beyond the mental hump and overwhelm, I began seeing results that excited me and spurred me on. I’m using this energy for other things too.

Since my severe ankle injury nearly three months ago, my activity level has been forced to dramatically change. Dealing with injury is a different kind of challenge but one I can manage. I’ve lost conditioning and gained weight. UGH. What’s a girl to do?!

Get back on the wagon and be intentional about what’s important to me, that’s what I can do!

It’s what anyone can do. Most of us do not need more information, since it is readily available online and even through AI. I got into health coaching because women, like you and me, need support. Trusted friends and partners to come alongside can make all the difference.

Since Spring is a time of renewal, it’s a perfect opportunity to open the windows to fresh air and reset our health habits, but not with extremes. Simple and sustainable steps are what I advocate. Not a complete overhaul.

  1. Getting outside daily is EXCELLENT medicine for boosting your mood, reducing stress, and providing more energy. Mental and physical health are both tied to movement. I love walking in my neighborhood and right now that’s all I can do. Trails are off limits for a while longer due to my ankle injury and uneven ground. Finding a rhythm is my goal between walking, stretching, and the all-important strength training. Consistency matters more than intensity and contributes to overall energy, mood, mobility, and wellness. It’s the best and FREE medicine there is!
  • In the realm of diet, paying attention and adding in more protein is so helpful in sustaining bone mass and even satiety. Don’t forget your vegetables and lots of water too, while removing processed or junk food. If you tackle only one of these, I suggest prioritizing protein. Actually, when you add more of something, it leaves less room for processed or junk food. Win-win!
  • Don’t forget sleep! Winter left me with staying up too late and disrupted sleep that affects everything. I’m taking steps to get back into my good sleep routine, which is foundational for healing energy and resilience. Rest isn’t lazy; it’s important self-care for health and wellness.
  • Spring is also an opportunity to clear out stress and mental clutter. Like my physical, radical sprint cleaning, I must ask myself:

What feels draining to me right now?

What do I need less of? More of?

What would help me feel more peaceful and grounded?

Simplifying the calendar can help. Journaling is a wonderful tool to get and stay in touch with yourself.

Call to Action: What is calling you? What do you need to change or begin? What support would be helpful to do so?

Please remember, I am available to support you in living your best life. I’m over here doing the same for myself. We’re in this together.

In love and health,

Terri
