Why Slow Seasons are Sacred in the Healing Journey

If you’re walking through a healing journey, it’s easy to believe that progress only counts when it looks productive.

We think healing means:
more effort
more discipline
more doing
more pushing forward

But the truth is something very different — especially for women living with autoimmune conditions.

Healing happens in seasons.

And some of the most important seasons don’t look like progress at all.

They look like:
rest
stillness
pauses
setbacks
waiting
quiet
surrender

In a world that praises productivity, slowing down can feel like failure. But for the healing body, rest is not regression — it is repair.

Your body was designed to heal when it feels safe.
And safety often comes in slower seasons.

When life forces us to pause — whether through fatigue, emotional overwhelm, caregiving demands, or unexpected circumstances — it can feel like everything is being taken away. But sometimes God is creating space for restoration we would never choose on our own.

The healing journey isn’t linear.
It’s layered.
It’s cyclical.
It’s seasonal.

Personal Story

Today I’m in a different part of my healing story. About a week ago, I badly sprained my ankle with a possible fracture. The x-ray was inconclusive, and I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon. This event literally stopped me in my tracks! I cried! God! God! Please don’t let it be broken! Please let this be nothing.

Unfortunately, it’s not nothing, it’s something that is requiring a lot of care and down-time. I’m still figuring out the physical part, but I know God is in this. I don’t know why although some things have transpired that I think may be why. Regardless, I trust Him.

There are seasons for:
building
learning
releasing
resting
strengthening
recalibrating

And every single one is part of the process.

You are not falling behind when your pace slows.
You are not failing when your body asks for rest.
You are not losing progress in quiet seasons.

Often, those are the very seasons where the deepest healing is happening beneath the surface.

Trust the season you’re in.

God is never late.
Your body is not broken.
Healing is still unfolding — even when it feels invisible.

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

In love and health,

Terri
